Crew members were polite!

The group of six young men consisted entirely of nice, competent professionals. After visiting both a storage facility and my home, everything was in its rightful position and in immaculate shape. Because to the thoughtful packing, I had no trouble finding anything when unloading. Insist on it.

They are a moving company broker

They will tell you they are a full-service mover. That's a lie. When my movers showed up to load, the company was Logistic Union, Inc (no website, phone # disconnected, etc.). It was too late to cancel so I chalked it up to just another outfit saying anything for your business, getting a deposit, and only delivering a fraction of what you contract for. After my stuff was loaded, I was hit with an extra $100 for "additional stairs" and had to pay both the bill ($1315.95) via Zelle and the added cost. They loaded on April 13, 2022, and delivered today, May 9, 2022 (Wyoming to Central Florida or 1900 miles). The two guys that showed up today smelled like they hadn't showered in weeks, and used my bathroom every 10 minutes or so that it became a running joke with them about having bladders the size of an infant...25% of the boxes delivered looked like they'd been chewed up in a stump grinder, half-opened as if someone tried inspecting the contents and did a p#ss poor job of taping them back up. Some boxes were crushed and luckily it was only clothing. Some boxes had gaping holes punched in them as if someone was playing kickball with them. To speed things up, I ended up removing all of the furniture blankets on the furniture and told them I would reassemble all of the furniture because they smelled so bad that I didn't want them in my home anymore.

Hello,
Sorry to hear some of the feedback that was left, this is never our intention going in. We are indeed a broker as this is a broker driven industry. Even the large companies contract out their work due to the high demand of relocation. Most of the larger outfits will sub out jobs that are under 500 cf of inventory. We are very clear as to our practices verbally and contractually.
Thank you for sharing some pics to paint a better picture on the condition of the boxes. Sometimes the corners of these boxes do give when travels over 1k miles. We are happy to hear there were no damages.
We understand that moving can be frustrating, however some of the feedback we feel is obnoxious as to the movers smelling, we are well aware of who was out there and we have worked with them for many years. It is not fair to over extend your review in effort to drive it home harder. This hard work these guys are out there doing, we hope can understand that we always put our best foot forward when assisting in long distance relocations.

Easy Peasy Move

Ask for either Courtney or Patrick! They were both wonderful throughout the whole process. Courtney was my sales person, and Patrick was the dispatch manager I spoke with in regards to changing my move dates. My father had a medical issue which delayed our move. I reached out to Courtney late at night and she transferred me to Patrick, who was able to fit the new dates into his schedule. Come moving day, Patrick texted me that the movers were stuck in the notoriously bad LA traffic, so they were a little late but things happen. All in all, I’d recommend this company to anyone that’s looking into doing a long distance move!

Worst experience through them

Worst moving group. No credibility. They hired some really irresponsible moving company that did not bring packaging material despite me paying for the entire packing, and I have received items in their worst possible condition.

My television was not packed at all and of course, it's broken.

My litter robot is missing its structures, so basically useless now, the wires of my recliner sets are cut and plugs are broken, so it cannot function. and not to forget, the improper handling of furniture that leaves my entire bed not assemblable anymore.

I am so heartbroken right now.

Hello,
We are sorry to see the customer had some broken/damaged items. We did inform you that the customer is responsible for the TV box. In most cases we have promotions where we send them out for customers. These boxes consist of foam inserts for the corners of the TV's. When traveling 100's if not 1000's of miles we need to ensure they are packed properly. If the customer needs assistance with a claims form, please reach out to our customer service department and we'd be happy to assist with the process.

Stress-free!

I'll have to say this company impressed me. The lady was very responsive and professional. The drivers showed up right at 8 am!! A giant moving truck, I was so happy. The movers were excellent, introduced themselves and got STRAIGHT to work! They busted some serious tail the entire time. They didn't stop for breaks. They packed the truck like pros. It was lovely working with them. Highly recommended!

Cross country move

My moving experience started out well but to date has been nothing but a hassle. I received my estimate and was satisfied with that but since then there has been nothing but poor customer service and treatment of my belongings. My daughter was at the pick up and I left her with the amount of cash that was supposed to be collected at pick up however the mover added expenses that I was under the impression were included in my estimate. She also was not given an inventory list of items and their condition as it stated in the estimate. The company gives you a 2 date window and will call with arrival time. They called me the day before the first date to say that they would not be able to pick up that day it would be the following day and they would call with the time. The next day I received a call from the mover stating he would be there in an hour which was not acceptable as my daughter could not get there on that short of notice. With that resolved, the mover arrived on the date to pick up items of which to my horror he treated very badly. He did not wrap my furniture items in moving blankets as indicated in my estimate, all of the items that were unboxed at pick up were just left unboxed and loaded on a truck that way, my pictures and paintings were laid on top of one another and all wrapped together in one moving blanket, packing tape was applied directly to my wood finished furniture to keep them closed and my bicycle was man handled twisting the handlebars sideways without loosening them so it would be more flat. I did call the company after pick up with my concerns and spoke with Hope. She requested that I email her the one piece of paper that was given to my daughter at pick up which I did. When I told her that my items were treated as above the only response that I received was our packing tape is very gentle and we do have picture boxes for pictures. Now that I am ready for my items to be gotten out of storage and sent to me I cannot seem to get anyone to answer a phone so that I can give them instructions an address for delivery. If you are moving please use a company that will treat your items with care and respect because other than my initial encounter with Nicholas who generated my estimate this has been a terrible experience.

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $12012

Official company response

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are not pleased with the services thus far. To address some of the issues you mentioned, We always on every move ask for a 2 day pickup window as this is very standard for the moving industry, unless a one day window is paid for. This is a challenging time with truck and labor shortages throughout the industry. Customer mentioned some items were not packed. We only dissemble and pack "standard furniture" unless customer purchases additional packing. So, all boxes, pictures, mirrors, fragile items would need to be packed by the owner. These are listed on the contract as PBO (packed by owner) this is also gone over verbally during the verification call. When it comes to bicycles, the movers are not going to use tools and adjust the bicycle for liability purposes, this is not part of our disassembly services. The mover would find a space for it as a filler on the truck and secure the front tire in-between items to lock it in. It might have not looked great but there is a system to packing a moving truck, the idea it to make every fit like a puzzle and get everything locked in to avoid shifting during transit.
It appears the mover could have required packing to move the item for the particular move, this would have cost the customer 100's more, however they blanketed some of the items in effort to help the matter.
Long distance moving can be tricky when there are multiple moves on any route. This is why we need to 2 day window, we have no control of unforeseen circumstances and sometimes the previous move takes longer then expected. It is important that customers make themselves available for the 2 days as the mover are going to call when they are nearby.
We understand the stresses involved in long distance moving. Please understand this is a unique time in which we are doing our absolute best to accommodate every family we assist.
Again we apologize for any inconveniences they may have occurred. If any further assistance is needed, please reach out to the customer service department as were here to help.
Thank you,

Excellent service!

Highly recommend these guys. They were very accommodating from beginning to end with any questions I had. All of my things were packed, but some furniture like the beds and entertainment center had to be disassembled. There were 4 movers, and they were very efficient and were able to adjust to 2 movers for part of the move for a cheaper rate. All my things were very well wrapped and taken care of. Their packing of the truck was like art. And yes, nothing broke during transit. My highest recommendations with this company!

Long-distance move from Hopkins, MN to Broomfield, CO

Disheartened

The purpose of this is to not get City Mover’s in trouble or to cause any harm. The purpose is so that purchasers and consumers can be properly educated and informed as we are not.

I do not move regularly, I had to move in a short time. I googled moving companies and had several contact me. City Moving Group had me google them and look at reviews, most of which were good.

I did not know I was talking to a broker. I did not know that I only had 72 hours to cancel without loosing my deposit of 1100, which I did find out and try to cancel, but the woman who talked me through it assured me they only vet the best moving companies and she “knew the good ones”

I did not know my moving company would be S and M Relo LLC until the day of, well after the cancellation period. If I had known in advance and had been able to research I would have found this:

https://www.bbb.org/us/oh/radnor/profile/moving-companies/s-m-relo-llc-0302-70097834

All 1 star reviews and over 100 complaints filed...no positive reviews. At all. Also, it takes time to book out a mover, you can’t get someone to move on short notice cross country. This puts the customer in a bind, having paid over 1/3 of my predicted moving costs and needing to move.

Then that day the movers came and sent me a 15 page document that I needed to sign increasing my move from 810 on pick up to 1700 saying added square footage. I asked how they knew the footage without it being on the truck. They said they could not load the truck or do anything until signed and paid in full. So I did. Not being able to read in a storage unit on my small phone all the details.

I was told my delivery would be 3-10 days. All of this has been very stressful, and honestly I do not mind paying for good service. What concerns me and that I feel is important is that City Moving Group takes responsibility for their part in vettting the moving companies. I feel that there was dishonesty and I was taken advantage of.

All contact with S and M Relo LLC since the pick up has been empty. From me as well as City Moving. No one can get a hold of them, they had not submitted the paperwork or given me a copy as I was at the storage unit for 9 hours that day. For a 1 BR 1BA apartment that was already packed and in storage for 2 years, it should not have taken that long.

Again, I am not trying to cause problems, I just feel consumers should know what they are getting into, dealing with a broker and not the actual moving company.

I wish all companies and businesses the best, I want everyone to succeed, just know that this is people’s sanity, livelihood and lives they are dealing with. Utter physical pain and stress from sleeping on the floor, not having cookware or a place to sit, getting sick, not having money to pay for anything to supplement, going further in debt and not knowing anything or anywhere can put someone to the edge. And you have to ask yourself, is someone’s life worth making an extra dollar for? Where is the honesty and service in this?

Sincerely and Respectfully Always,

Me

Official company response

Katrina,
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused during the moving process with us. Please know these situations are not done intentionally. We are in a very unique time and now going into the Holidays. The truck and labor shortages is indeed a real thing. This is occurring across the board with transportation industries. Please understand these small moves (268 cf.) are on shared loads in trucks that hold 4000cf. for drop off. There are a lot of logistics that go into these routes. This is why the contract you signed stated that we cannot guarantee pick up or delivery times.
Moving is stressful, some move for the good and some for the bad. We are sorry you lost your job. Moving to another state is also uncomfortable and throws us out of routine. However this should be expected for people when moving, Quick food, not your own bed, spending money that we would prefer not to. These all go into the relocation budget and should be accounted for prior to starting the process.
We will continue to stay in communication with you and do our best to see that you receive your items as quickly as possible so you can get back to a routine based lifestyle.

Thank you kindly,
-City Moving Group

Long Distance Move

Absolutely horrendous. Two top takeaways , if you do not feel like reading.

1. Make sure you are talking to a moving company, not a broker

2. DO NOT use city moving group

During my quote, I gave a complete itemized list of my belongings and they said it would be 350 cubic feet and cost ~$2500. I was debating moving myself (est. cost $1600), and only decided to use movers, at all, because of this quote. I walked through a sample quote, and everything looked great, so they sent me another one to sign. I did, hastily, assuming it would match the one that I just spent 30 minutes walking through. It did not. It was a misquote of items and cubic feet. When I realized the mistake, I called customer service. They were totally unhelpful, and said to wait for my QA call.

I explained what happened to QA and showed him a copy of the quote I thought I was signing, and he said they would honor the original. I even got it in writing.

Then, the movers showed up, and not only were they not told or held to honoring that quote, but I actually had 700 cubic ft of stuff, and it would be an extra $2000. And they couldn't even get ahold of city moving group. This was the point I realized, city moving group is not a moving company, but a broker. They basically charge you a large fee (mine was~$1000) to book movers. After sharing this story with others, it turns out, this is commonplace with moving brokers. They underbid, and then you have to fork out more whenever the movers show up.

I called customer service to try and figure something out. I understand signing the smaller quote was my fault, but I was more upset about how my perfectly, itemized, "original" quote was HALF of what they said, which would've resulted in an extra 2k, regardless. I even clarified that I would've been in the same predicament, had I signed the right quote. The woman, condescendingly, tried to explain to me how cubic feet is cubic feet and "sometimes they are spot on, and sometimes they are not". Ultimately, they offered me $150 -- to which I responded that it was not enough to rectify the situation, and I'd be leaving bad reviews. She put me on a brief hold (and for a moment, I had hope they were going to do better), but no. She came back on to tell me that the $150 was off the table, if I left bad reviews. So, I declined their hush money, because I would rather save others from this horrid, stressful experience. As if moving isn't awful enough.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4500

Official company response

Hello,
Sorry to hear the moving process was not to your liking. In the moving companies defense, We took an inventory over the phone and listed the items that were described to us. It is the customers responsibility to provide an accurate description of the goods as stated in the contract. In the event that items need to be added or removed, we place a Quality Assurance call prior to the pickup. This would be the time to make adjustments prior to the pickup to avoid issues on site.
Customers are only going to pay for what they move. In the event of additions onsite, that money goes directly to the mover and we do not make one additional cent. That being said, there is no reason for us to use the tactics mentioned by the customer.
In the moving industry every company is a broker. More so now then ever due to the labor and truck shortages. Moving carrier rely on moving brokers to handle the logistics and coordination of the moves, we all work together.

Items destroyed, delayed, and no communications,

They were not the cheapest and convinced me that paying more would be worth better service. It did not. Once my items were picked up there was no communication. The brokered truck shipped my items straight to my desired destination but I learned from the trucker that it arrived two days earlier than my move in date so they shipped it two days away and it sat there for 10 days until they could find a truck and driver to drive it two days back. In the meantime no calls were made to update me, I had to call them andthetrucker to understand where my things were and when they might arrive. I had no bed or items for 10 days after my move date. I packed fragile items in bubble wrap in hard plastic bins and the bins and majority of items inside were destroyed as though heavy furniture was stacked and transferred on top. I did not receive two items. After they received their money this team was not committal, made excuses for the trucking co and I had to reach out to get updates as no communication to me was made after my items were picked up. Avoid this company. You can do better somewhere else for less.

Official company response

Hello Debra,
We're sorry that the mover and to fast for delivery and some items were broken or damaged. Goin with the lower cost would have nothing but make matter worse we the lower cost go to lower tier carrier or 1 star carrier's.
When the movers learned that that couldn't drop off even though the paperwork signed on pickup allowed them to do so, they had to bring the items to the nearest warehouse. They would then start handling other moves as they would have to wait for another truck to ship out your goods. In most cases customer's are looking for the quickest drop off possible it is very uncommon that they are too early, as most are upset that its taking too long.
We are sorry that we were unable to please you with this move. If you need assistance with filing a claim, please reach out to the customer service department.

Stay away from this company!! They damaged all my daughter’s furniture, cracked open totes, oil stains on couch, sticky stuff all over garbage can, headboard in pieces…to name a few! They are impossible to get ahold of, and don’t return calls!! Only ONE guy to move in an entire apartment!! They use one company to pack, and a different company to drive and unload. Zero stars ( had to pick poor)

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3900

Hello,
After reviewing the file it appears the customer service department has been working with the daughter (person moving) we explained that just because the boxes or totes are cracked does not mean that the contents inside are damaged. She was to communicate with us after unpacking the boxes and totes as to the condition. It does appear that on the delivery side we found out last minute the unit was on the 3rd floor and had to charge for 2 additional flights of stairs. This standard in the moving industry as moving furniture up and down stairs is not easy.
The claims forms have been emailed out in effort for the customer to file and insurance claim. If any assistance is needed please reach out to the customer service department during normal business hours and select the prompt "after pickup" to receive the proper attention.
Thank you,

WORST MOVING COMPANY!

DO NOT USE THIS "MOVING COMPANY!" My husband spoke to the representative Dan who LIED to us and said that we would recieve our delivery 4 to 5 days after our move from NY to FL. He Guaranteed that we would recieve it by then. HE ALSO LIED BY SAYING THEY DO NOT USE A 3RD PARTY OR BROKER AND WE HAD TO FIND OUT FOR OURSELVES ON THE DAY OF THE PICKUP THAT THEY USE AN OUTSIDE MOVING COMPANY!!! My husband and I had to schedule time off from work just for them to not deliver it AND DIDNT EVEN NOTIFY US. We've called over 50 times and still have not recieved our furniture and it's been OVER A MONTH SINCE THE DISPATCHER PICKED UP OUR STUFF AND WE STILL HAVENT RECIEVED IT! WEVE SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS REACHING OUT TO THEM AND ALL WE HAVE GOTTEN ARE THEIR VOICEMAIL MESSAGING BOXES FOR THEM TO NOT EVEN CALL US BACK! I'LL BE REPORTING THIS COMPANY TO THE BBB. It is ridiculous and their customer service has been TERRIBLE WHEN WEVE SPENT OVER 10K FOR THEM TO MOVE OUR STUFF AND HAVE BEEN BUYING ESSENTIAL ITEMS OUT OF POCKET BECAUSE WE STILL HAVENT RECIEVED OUR ITEMS. WE DESERVE A CREDIT FOR THEIR POOR SERVICE!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND WELL BEING AND DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Alana,
We are not sure as to why you though we do not broker these jobs out. Most movers broker their jobs out. More so now then ever based on the market and situation in the country. The delivery spread is based on the date listed on the Bill of Lading under "First Available Delivery Date" The customer has control over this. Now, what transpires on the route with other moves and situation on the road are simply out of our control.
When reviewing the call logs on this file it is important to make sure you are calling the correct number during business hours. This number can be found on the top right hand corner of the contract. We can assure you there is a full customer service department and they are working hard each and every day to assist customers.
If there are any further questions or assistance needed please reach out to the customer service department.

Long-distance move from Vermont to Florida

Vermont to Florida

My experience with this company has been a nightmare. My furniture was to be picked up on March 4th with a two-day window. The day of the move I received a text that the movers couldn't make it, "they backed out" The move was from Vermont to Florida. I purchased a round trip ticket to meet the movers, rented a car, took vacation time from my job, and rented a hotel room for two days. All of this was done for nothing. When I was told they would not be able to make it, I called them to try to get my deposit back and I was told it would have to "go through review". Today is March 9th and I still do not have my belongs, nor do I have a new scheduled day or my refund back. For those of you who are not aware, there is a federal company that oversees companies like this. The name is FMCSA, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. 877-688-2984. Think long and hard before using this broker, who by the way is NOT a moving company, but finds movers for you

We are sorry for the inconveniences that have occurred with your move. This was never our intention. After the truck issue we experienced getting out to the location for your pickup became extremely challenging as we had to dispatch another carrier which pushed us out a few days as the dispatch manager discussed with you. In rare cases these situation do happen as there are unforeseen circumstances in the moving industry. Please know, all moving companies are brokers, even the big ones that have been around for 100 years, they to use network carriers. It does appear that compensation was offered to you for the delays. Again we do apologize for the inconveniences.

Long-distance move from Pennsylvania to California

Missing items and total lies by salesman.

My elderly trusting in-laws were moving from PA to San Diego to live with us. They arrived today!

The salesman sold them a fair price or at least that is what they believed.

When the guys got there to load they went gangbusters: so fast that they couldn't keep track of what was going on. They were given an inventory that you can't read because it didn't transfer via carbon copy.

After they left my Father-in-law called and told me to watch for a small toolbox because when he went out to ask about the location of it and the sticker: the guy acted like he didn't understand English and ignored him. The toolbox in question never made it to our home.

There were also 2 jewelry boxes one cherry wood and the other my wife had hand-painted a month ago when she helped them pack, It never made it either.

We are also missing 2 pieces of precut p[lywood for the bed which did make it.

My inlaws had also agreed on the delivery date to be either before the 13th of Feb or after the 21st of Feb since we would be out of the country. Well, they showed up on the 15th while we were out of the country.

We asked them to wait and deliver at our agreed-on date. They told me NO, it would cost us more than 700 extra!

We then wasted half a day asking our friends to lend a hand to take delivery and get the cash for payment.

We got that arranged, then we got another call saying they couldn't get up our driveway even though we showed a picture and we warned them that it was steep. Now that would also be another 700!

I am so disappointed they took advantage of my trusting parents!

We will see if they get her jewelry box and toolbox back. I am a contractor so the plywood isn't anything other than an inconvenience. They did have insurance so we will see.

BE VERY CAREFUL of these people! The person we kept talking to was Daniel and all she could say was the salesman was new and didn't know what he was doing. All at our expense.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $6900

Official company response

Hello,
Sorry to hear of the situations that you in laws are experiencing as these are never our intentions. if items were misplaced they will be out to them shortly and we apologies for the inconvenience. If the paperwork is needed, our customer service department would be more then happy to contact the carrier and make a request for them. When it comes to long distance moving, companies cannot guarantee pickup or drop off dates due to logistics and other families on the route. The trucks are coming from other states as opposed to be in the same city waiting for the call. This is why customer are responsible for listing a first available delivery date on the paperwork at pickup. After that date the movers have the ability to delivery to goods. In this case the first available date should have been listed for when you all returned to the country. Scheduling a long distance relocation around being out of the country would be tricky for any mover/customer. Again, we apologize for any inconveniences on this move. We will put the missing items under review with the customer service team and the carrier to get the goods to you folks as soon as possible.

Long-distance move from Columbus, OH to Mchenry, IL

Horrible movers

This was the WORST moving experience of my life. I was moving from Ohio to Illinois, and at first this seemed like a reputable company. However, this is a broker... not an actual van line, which means when there are issues with anything you spend your day trying to get ahold of ANYONE who knows anything. City Moving Group says they have an after hours customer service line (BTW... they close at 6pm, and aren't open on the weekends), which consists of nice agents who can't tell you anything other than send an email to the main office that will then be addressed the following business day.

My pickup was scheduled for a Friday... they didn't come until Monday. Mind you, I was suppose to be out of my house by Saturday, and ended up having to pay a late move out fee. My final cost was 3x more than my initial quote. Which, I understand a final cost being slightly more than the quote, however 3x more is ridiculous. I followed their packing instructions, yet was charged $500 by the van line for moving supplies ($100 for saran wrap - WHAT???) This whole experience was laughable honestly. I couldn't believe what was going on.

The worst part of all of this... is that no one from customer service cares to respond or help me. They constantly say they are looking into and will get back to me, yet I have to keep following up, and haven't heard anything for a month. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS MOVING COMPANY. I have never been so stressed in my life. Save yourself the battle, and find a mover that is NOT a broker to ensure you receive better customer service.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you feel this was a bad experience. When reviewing the file it shows fairly constant communication with multiple customer service representatives. Yes we are a broker and this is clearly stated throughout the contract you signed in 7 different places. This is the standard practice of the industry currently as many carriers are relying on us to handle the coordination of the move, that is unless you choose the high end companies such as Mayflower, Allied Etc.
Customer have full control of the cost of their move. If they choose to bring more items, yes the cost would increase. If items are not packed that are supposed to be packed by the customer then yes they do have to charge for packing, this way the goods can be insured appropriately. Please understand furniture was not made to be moved. When traveling hundreds if not thousands of miles, we have to make sure the goods are packed properly to handle the trip.
It does show on the file that compensation was offered towards your move for any discrepancies that may have occurred. Below is the breakdown of the overages that occurred on your move.
Base: 605CF @ $4.30 = $2601.50
Additional: 195CF @ $4.30 = $838.50

Long-distance move from Norco, CA to Tijeras, NM

It's not our fault

I hired, one of my biggest mistakes, to move my family from CA. to NM.

It was a nightmare from the beginning.

Cheryl wouldn't let me speak to a supervisor on numerous occasions. When I hired the company I didn't know we're moving to the mountains.

Up to 2 days before moving. Nicholas called to go over the items to be moved. The movers said they couldn't read the list. I asked Nicholas multiple times that I had wood that was in a box but couldn't be sealed. "Sure, no problem." I explained about my workbench needing to have the top protected.

Moving day, the contract company couldn't read the list. The list wasn't modified according to Cheryl. Then Riley tells me here's the notes and read it back.

So they can't even get their story straight.

I also told Nicholas that I had a band saw, scroll saw and table saw that couldn't be boxes.

The movers said EVERYTHING HAS TO BE IN BOXES. So, I call Cheryl, "well, the contract agency knows what the regulations are, we just make a list. We don't know."

The workbenches and saws were left behind. It would cost me 1,800 for me to rent a truck and drive those items out.

I would not recommend this company to Putin, that's how horrible they are.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $6200

Official company response

Hello,
It appears there was much miscommunication with this relocation. We specialize in moving house hold goods. When it comes to large tools and machinery, some are unique and need special attention. At the end of the day they can't go on the truck bare. They would not be insured and obviously subject to damages when traveling 100's of miles.
It looks like the when the movers arrived the actual customer wasn't even on-site but the but had her sister present. Apparently, the sister was the one to decide what to load and what not to load. Which is fine as long as the customer and sister were on the same page, this we would question.
During the communication with customer service the sister indicated they would be taking some of the tools with a rented van. Furthermore, customer explained that the foreman was very easy to work with and they had no problem with him.
Later, customer service did what they could to advocate on their behalf and if they needed the movers to go back out for the tools that they would.
Please call our customer service department if further assistance is needed.

Don’t work with them!

This is a No No No company to work with! After they called you 2-4 times a day to get you as a client, once you are trapped in the situation, they abandon you! They are liars! They NEVER tell you EVERYTHING you will go through with the moving company… They don’t do refund (just a portion) You don’t know when you will receive your stuff either. We ended up paying over $2000 more because they say we had more stuff than we said to them over the phone, when I remember exactly asking her the question because they don’t send anybody to your house to see what do you have. Just because this broker lie to us. I would not recommend anybody to do business with them. They just want to get clients and then leave them on their own. Casey was the associate that harassed us with calls, trying to get us and then she never picked up my calls or replied my text when I was in the situation. Thank Goodness I know now so nobody else around us would get in touch with them when they need a moving service.

Hello,
We have reviewed this file as to why the customer may be upset or disappointed with our services. It appears prior to the pickup they added additional goods- 604 cf/ 58 new pieces. Yes, this would influence the cost to increase. Customer service has been in constant communication as to the delivery date. As the broker, our job is to advocate with the network carrier as to updates and provide them to the customer which we will continue to do. This is a broker driven industry as many are these days. When we buy a home, we use a real-estate broker. These mover are constantly on the road and do not have the time or staff to manage all the back end coordination and logistics that goes into these moves.
We hope the customer can understand our point of view as to the matters discussed above. We are here to ensure all moves go as well as they can and we will continue to do our best to delivery and improve as a company.

Not a reputable company - avoid

I would like to reiterate some of the other negative reviews about City Moving Group. I also had a very bad experience with this company. They are not reputable.

I had placed an order with them with a July move date. The salesman then passes me to their dispatch person to confirm. After some discussions about the duration of the move due to the long distance involved, I requested and earlier move date in June instead of July of which they agreed to.

On the date of the move June, they did not show up so I call to check on the status since there is a 3-day window. They mentioned that their system still have the move date of July. So I still willing to go work with this company and requested an earlier move date of which they then denied. I subsequently requested to cancelled the order and requested the deposit to be funded since the fault about the move date was with them.

They refuse to provide the refund and only refer to the original agreement with the salesman instead of the June agreement with their dispatch personnel.

I then asked them to review the call recordings since it contains the facts of the matter. What happened next was more appalling. They lied and said they had reviewed the recordings but then later admitted the call recordings are for training purposes only.

So when there is a dispute, they will not accommodate nor do any investigation to find the truth.

I'm still in the process of trying to get the deposit refunded.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $4900

Official company response

In this particular case there seemed to be a miscommunication as to the customer moving their date up. Mentioned the need to change date to our 3rd party answering service would not be the sufficient way to change a date, especially to move a date up which can cost more money and conflict with existing routes already spoken for. Date changes need to be mentioned in writing 7 days prior to the first available pickup date as stated in the contract. This is gone over in the email sent out prior to pickup titled Customer rights and responsibilities.
We are sorry this took place for you, we wish we had proper notification and the opportunity to make the change possible for you.

JUST DONT DO IT

JUST DONT DO IT, ILL KEEP IT SIMPLE and short for you.

1.NO FOLLOW UP. you will have from this situation it would be only to close the contract and probably to be contradicted from your experience on the comments. took me 1 month to make some time after the terrible experience to share this comments, just to avoid to you future moving the frustration.

2.PAY MORE MONEY. Get ready to pay extra 1650usd that you didnt have under consideration from the full total of your contract. im sure money is not important for you after all moving expenses you know keeps adding up and this will make an special nightmare for you.

3. FRUSTRATION YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL OF ANYTHING. You will be in a nightmare that you have to surrender and be on the mercy, probable from the mover, who at the end didn't have to do anything with the company, cause this company knows about selling you the idea you are covered, but will not try to assist you.

4. EXTRA CHARGES AND LOSING PART OF YOUR MOVING. Was charge extra for stairs when this information was shared from the beginning, was charge from overweigh and was charge because a big trailer had to move my stuff and NO i dint move a house just simple and small studio.

Note. incredible thing is stuff of my own I never got to receive, oh but i do have a very nice carpet and some steel bars that are not mine and im sure will belong to someone else, if you got my TV, bed frame, personal photos and some other stuff you don't recognize, please let me know so we can exchange pictures and figure it why you don't have your full moving and have stuff from someone else and remember you pay for over weight!! haha

You put yourself in the knowledge and experience of movers, you dont know shit about moving and you are trying to keep yourself under a budget, because of course you have other expenses, so me having to put extra money is nothing else that my fault , I always was wrong and yes again im not and you are not experience.

Hello,
Unfortunately, we are unable to locate a file under this customer name. In some cases they have found the wrong "City Moving" as there are other companies attempting to piggy back off of our name and reputation. We would ask that the customer check their moving estimate and make sure they have the proper DOT number. If they find this review was left in error, we would ask they remove it as we do our best to maintain a positive reputation on all review sites.

PREDATORY COMPANY

Working with this company was a NIGHTMARE from start to finish.

TLDR; gave great initial quote, hiked up price by almost double 6 days before pickup, multiple broken items on arrival.

I was allured to this company based on a quick timeline and a reasonable quote. They also seemed to have good reviews online, and like many, I ignored the very legitimate warnings from others to avoid this company. I originally spoke to a Josh King. I walked through all the items in my house, leaving out a couple pieces of furniture that I wasn’t sure I was going to bring with me from my move from Texas to California. He gave me a quote and I signed the contract after reviewing the items. I was told I should receive a phone call again to make sure that all the items were up to date.

Six days before my pickup window, I received another phone call with Michael, one of the managers who had me again walk through the items in my house. He began nit-picking on the items saying “Oh Josh put those chairs down as chairs but they are really ‘Everyday chairs’ which adds some square footage” and that “large bin is actually a plastic wardrobe” etc. I did also add my outdoor patio furniture but ended up not taking a whole living room dining set due to the increase in price. With the addition of my patio furniture and all these little changes, Michael increased my quote almost double. I’m sure they are going to respond that I had multiple items added and the square footage increased yadda yadda yadda (this was led by their first person giving an inaccurate representation of my goods). At this point, they knew they could because I was military and needed to PCS to my next duty station. And it would be impossible to book with another company on that short notice. Michael had a violent lack of empathy and even stated “yea did Josh do the best at estimating your stuff? I agree probably not.” But I’m the one who got rolled by it. It is clearly a pattern that they do to draw people in and then bait and switch close to pickup to increase their profits.

Anyway, I ended up signing the updated contract because I was honestly backed into a corner. They sub-contracted out to a local San Antonio company Jackson Movers, who was also a nightmare to work with. No one explained the insurance options to me and many of my expensive items were broken to include my 70 inch TV and my mattress (I didn’t even know you could break a mattress but here we are). The insurance also defaults to 60cents per lb which is ludicrously low.

Lastly, It really doesn’t make sense to use this company. There was a HUGE brokerage fee which could be avoided by just choosing a reputable local company that can VISUALIZE your stuff in person and give you a locked in quote.

The actions of this company were nothing short of predatory. So in short, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $12000

Official company response

Hello,
We are sorry that the move took place as you described, this is never our intention. Please understand, you mentioned yourself that you left items off the original estimate. The table that was in discussion and the change that needed to be made was very little as to additional cf. Being that we are a broker and have to contract the job out to one of our network carriers, it is our job to ensure the inventory list is accurate. Overages on-site can be extremely costly being that additional labor, material, and sometimes additional trucks are needed. We would rather the carrier go out there prepared. We would ask that as the customer take some responsibility and accountability. It seems the customer is so quick to jump on the broker for the errors when in essence they sign an agreement stating in the event these situation may arise the customer is responsible, then they turn around, breach, and blame the broker/moving coordinator. This is considered defamation from a legal stand point.
The majority of our moves go extremely well, we are involved with over 5k moves annually. Unfortunately, the small percentage of them that do not go well end up on these review sites. We are very pleased with our success rates, but will continue to do what we can to improve them.
At the end of the day customers have to pay for what they move. If items are left off, the moving company can not be held responsible for the overages. Everyone would take advantage of the moving companies when over the phone estimates are conducted.
Long distance moving is a privilege and folks who are doing their best to watch finances should be performing self moves in order to save the most money. Furthermore, this is a broker driven industry, these carriers rely on us as we do them. A lot goes into this process, there's are sales teams, customer service teams, verification agents, dispatch team, and the movers, we all work together and rely on each other to make these long distance moves happen.

Do not use this moving service. They are thieves. I was in a very horrible situation. Scheduled a move in a time of extreme distress. Gave them $1500 deposit. I had to cancel my move. I didn't even have an official day set. They are only refunding me $300. Now I'm homeless. I'm going to write reviews everywhere l, everyday, so everyone knows the intentions and poor character of the people running this company. Do not use this company

Official company response

Hello Kelley,
As discussed over the phone, we are here to move you, however, moves cannot be cancelled last minute when a carrier is already dispatched. This verbiage it stated in our contract and you were made aware of its terms by signing in multiple places when agreeing to the move with us.
This is a business and we do have policies in place for a reason, money goes into these routes especially when moves are booked last minute and we have to move mountains to find a carrier.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

I am not typically one to write a review however my goal is to save another family from having the same experience. We were initially quoted about 4k from City Moving Group who connected us with Great American Van Lines for a move from Massachusetts to Colorado.

Our quote then doubled with the final inventory list which seemed unfortunate but not unrealistic given the size of our move. However, once Oren (Great American Van Line) and his crew showed up at our house, the truck was loaded they demanded an additional 4k in CASH. We were charged multiple additional fees which were not disclosed by City Moving Group after an itemized and accurate list was finalized by this company including fuel charges, a shuttle service that was never used, wrapping fees and bulk items surcharges. I wish I could remember the name of the owner who spoke with my husband and I on the phone because we were VERY MISLEAD. Total our move cost about 12k and we had no indication to think our cost would TRIPLE or we would have rented a uhaul and done it ourselves

Once the movers arrived in Colorado they unloaded the truck while drinking beer (then driving again to their next location) tried to give us items that were not ours, my husband had to go through the semi-truck himself to make sure items were not lost and still some were. The items in the truck were absolutely destroyed. The response from the movers was "what do you expect." Complete disregard for customers paying thousands expected to get their items safely moved. This is a complete bait and switch organization and complete scam artists.

OVERALL AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $12000

Official company response

Hello,
We do apologize for any inconveniences during your move. Please understand that folks have to pay for what they move. In the event that additional items need to be moved or additional packing is required, the movers have to charge for these services. Please know as the broker, we do not make additional money in this case. That being said it does not benefit us for your cost to increase. As to the movers drinking, this is news to us. In some cases customers have offered the guys a beer after the job. We hope that this was not turned around on them being that some items were damaged.
If further assistance is needed, please reach out to the customer service department as would would be happy to help or assist in filing a claim with the insurance carrier.

Save yourself the headache

This "company" gave me a quote of $3,482.

After booking and paying a deposit with them, a representative called me 2 weeks before my move date to go over final inventory.

When going over the inventory, there were several things the first representative missed.

There were also discrepancies with how the items were listed.

For example,

The original quote listed a small kitchen table with 4 chairs.

On the final inventory, the rep said, "4 chairs for a small table? A small kitchen table wouldn't have 4 chairs?"

My smaller sized kitchen table does in fact have 4 chairs.

The rep said that it would need to be listed as a large table.

The first rep listed the table as a small table!!

The quote then changed to $6,627.

That is $3,145 more than the original price!

Being that the original price almost doubled, I asked for my deposit back.

The rep kept talking about the market and how they would fill the space really fast, however they would not be giving me my deposit back.

After going back and forth, they said they might be able to give back $150 to $250 of the original deposit. The original deposit was $1,362.

The dishonesty is baffling.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $6700

Official company response

Hello,
Unfortunately the customer gave the moving coordinator an inaccurate inventory list. When it was time to make changes she had additional items to add and found it convenient to blame the moving coordinator for the overages.
The person writing this review was not even responsible for the financial side of the move as there was another party who we were in constant communication with who understood what took place.
We are hear to move families the right way, when an over the phone inventory is conducted it is the customer responsibility to provide the moving coordinator with an accurate inventory list. It is not City Moving responsibility when overages incur, this would lie on the customer as stated in the agreement which the customer signed off on. We did make the customer a compensation offer in effort to find common ground, unfortunately they became belligerent and making threats to harm our company which are unrealistic.
As a long distance moving company we want customer to have the proper piece of mind going into the move. The last thing families need is a revision on-site which can be much more costly then doing a revision in Quality Assurance and allowing us to prepare the foreman and the crew for the adjustment.
Thank you,

Move from east coast to San Diego

I never write reviews but I had to write one for this company. If possible, avoid at all costs. They charged me nearly double after arriving to my apartment and loading their truck, claiming there were more items than I originally stated. This was not true. After they loaded their truck with all my furniture, they had me sign contracts and gave me information about the drop off. When I got to CA to be there for the delivery, they told me everything was sitting in a warehouse in New Jersey and that I was not allowed to ask the carriers information about the delivery, even though they were sent by the company to pick up my furniture and deliver it. After being roughly 2 weeks late with the delivery, they brought my furniture scratched, and the base board for the bed was entirely missing. They brought me someone else's base board, which clearly was too small, and when I stated this wasn't mine, they told me to file an insurance claim and they just left the board on the grass outside.

They also charged me an extra fee per stair after arriving in CA, even though I repeatedly stated multiple times that there would be stairs. They asked me a bunch of questions during the initial signup process but it feels like they didn't actually take note of anything and then they just charged me for everything on the spot when it all should have been included in the initial quote. Do yourself a favor and find a different mover

Move size: 1 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4992

Official company response

Sanchi,
We informed you if you had additional items to be moves the cost would increase. We provide a binding estimate based on the inventory listed on the contract. If you deviate from that inventory list the cost would increase as we have to charge by space occupied on the truck.
